I finally gave in to temptation. I bought the faux wayfarer eyeglasses.I was walking to the train station on Broadway and Canal when the glasses caught my eye. I stopped to see what I would look like with them on, with no intention of buying them, when the sales lady told me she would give them to me for $8.00. I told her that I didn't want to purchase them when she continued negotiating with me. Finally she gave in and asked me how much I wanted to pay, when I told her a befitting amount that I would spend on something that might or might not sit in my drawer for the rest of eternity.I said "$5.00" and she with much hesitation said "okay" and there it was a pretty random, unintentional purchase.Fast forward 24 hours later I 'm wearing them to go out.Who'dathunk it?

I spent Saturday night with my friend Elie, went to Arrow Bar, then to meet up with some friends at a bar around the corner. It rained like crazy, it was hot and stuffy. It was awesome!!!

New York Doll

I've been given my own office in the MTV building in Times Square. It has made me realise this is all very real now, very real and very serious. Back in England when I worked on Popworld, Alex Zane and I used to pen our links in the dusty corner of a tape storage room before progressing to the more dignified surroundings of the local Irish pub. I liked it like that, I was used to it. From 23 floors up, if I crane my neck I can see all the flashing neon signs on 42nd Street from my window, it's ridiculous, I feel like I'm about to be found out.

Now that I've settled in a little (I have two sofas, a lamp and tomato ketchup in my fridge) I've started to enjoy the vibrant nightlife New York has to offer. I've also fallen into the trap of visiting the same bar pretty much every single night. It's underneath an innocent looking pizza place that is impossible to find unless you know it exists, once there you can spot most of the "Briteratti" (I did not coin this phrase, sadly) and at least one representative from every cool band huddled up in dim corners and redundant fireplaces guzzling down Jack 'n' Coke.

It seems to be the general rule in this city that no good bars or restaurants are ever obvious or on the beaten track, you always have to ring a buzzer or push a wall to get in. In the case of my favourite Mexican, La Esquina, you have to walk through a bustling kitchen and down a narrow corridor before being seated in a huge open cellar featuring every kind of tequila known to man.

On Friday Night I went to a bar called Home Sweet Home which weirdly contained the same stuffed stoats and tatty-looking sofas as, erm, I've got at home. A DJ played Sixties' girl group records about broken hearts and pining after somebody, and some bright spark instigated an impromptu limbo competition, using only his tie as the bar. I definitely haven't thought about the limbo since the Nineties.

That night I took on the role of limbo mascot and made it my job to encourage others to join in and get bending. I also began cheering on strangers in my booming voice. But I regretted it the next morning, when my sore throat rapidly developed into a full-blown cold, which makes it even harder for people to understand my accent.

I've taken to sporadically adopting an American accent at the tiniest hint of a problem, just to make sure things run smoothly. Hopefully this won't become a permanent habit.

In keeping with the ongoing saga of too many cooks (dogs) spoiling the broth (apartment building), yesterday I saw another grumpy looking canine fall down a flight of stairs. I didn't know dogs ever fell down things. I felt so sorry for him and it made me rethink my resentment of living in a building overrun with man's best friend. Maybe I'm just jealous because I don't have one; a dog, not a best friend. Although once my mate Tennessee leaves next week, best friends will be a bit thin on the ground. Oh God, time to get a TV...

This spring the trends are across the board. There's the edgy and rocker vibe going on.Then theres the 90's trend that is growing and expanding by the numbers.Then theres the 70's ethereal which will end up everywhere as well.
Must haves:
-Flirty floral dresses
-Slip Dresses
-Light/pastel anything
-An almost white denim jacket(preferably shrunken)
-Mom jeans(just take a look at swedish streetstyle.)
-Ever pervasive high waisted shorts
-Floaty skirts
-A cropped bustier(or a cropped t-shirt that's snug)
-Creepers(you will want a pair, by springs end)
-Of course ankle boots
-disco worthy platforms(preferably in woodsy colors)
-round sunglasses(you can't deny their infectiousness)
-a straw boater

The European Front

First off I have to say Charles Anastase's collection was INSANE!!! not in bad way but not in a good way either.These three looks (and a few others)were probably the most demure and wearable out of the whole collection. The collection as a whole seemed like it was straight out of some horror punk movie, with the addition of dirty faces, torn and dirty tights and shoes.Although freakish, it still maintained the aesthetic that an Anastase girl looks for. Edgy and girly combined to one look.

What can you say about Parisian Chic. Women love it and girls want to have it.I think any girl can vouch when I say that to have a parisian elegance is to achieve fashion bliss. This collection in a nutshell is that very essence. With all the crazy embellishments and gaudiness we see everywhere else, to see this collection is like a sigh of relief.

After 2 seasons in with Hannah MacGibbon, I can finally say "Welcome Back Chloe".This collection proves that after a few puzzling collections since the absence of Pheobe Philo, we can rest assured her protege can and will maintain Chloe's pedigree.
A few things I have to point out:
1.THE MAKE UP!!!!-oh my gosh, that make up is amazing. You can really see that the Chloe girl is moving on and progressing into a woman whose matured and sophisticated just by the make-up alone.Which is what I think Hannah had intended. Shes not trying to be Pheobe Philo, but trying to continue the path.
2.BLACK VELVET OVERALLS!!!!-who wouldn't want those?
3.THE SHOES!!!-what is a chloe collection without stand out shoes?

Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony

I'm sure this isn't new. I'm sure anyone who cares to see this has already done so but I have to say that those shoes are heaven sent!!! Oh my gosh they're lust worthy!!!
About a month ago I purchased a pair of black leather wedge sandals that are very reminiscent of the Twelfth street Cynthia Vincent sandals that were and still are super popular. They also look very much like these. I was super stoked to have ended up keeping them after seeing The chloe Sevigny version.

Sugar and Spice and everything nice!!! Erin Fetherston does it again. I don't know what it is, but the girl can do no harm in my eyes.I'm a sucker for girly looks and amid all the dark and moody looks coming from every other designer it really is a breath of fresh air.She knows her client and she know what to give them, and she really does keep it consistent. The mime-y influence and the masks are a little random but maybe the whole idea behind the collection is masquerade and who doesn't love getting dressed up?

This time around Alexander Wang's collection didn't really do it for me. Overall it was okay but honestly I wasn't too moved by it. Compared to his last Fall/Winter collection its a bit boring. Maybe I just don't get the whole cut-out in different variations thing.The biker shorts trend is awesome though. I had a huge feeling that these will come back but definitely not for Winter that's for sure. I don't know about you but there's no way I'll be wearing biker shorts with tights when its 15 degrees outside.These three looks would have to be my favorites of the whole collection.

It seems that Catherine Holstein knows Fall/Winter attire really well because even though her Spring/Summer collection really hit it big with the critics I wasn't too fond of it. Maybe it was the heavy head pieces she put on the models or the comparison to Super Mario Brothers, something just didn't click for me with that collection. This collection on the other hand is really be-witching. I absolutely love the dark elements and the combination of crushed velvet and chiffon. Aside from the Purple Pants, nothing in the collection is really innovative or fresh, even right down to the black lips. However it hits all the right trends without it being shoved down your throat, which is fresh in it's own right.

So Fashion week has come and gone and I didn't so much as update a single post and I'm absolutely ashamed at myself. Although I have to say I have felt a bit somber about the whole thing being that its been quite the lackluster fashion week ever. The clothes, the parties, the presentations, all so somber.I didn't have time during the week to keep posts going and I could very well put all my favorite looks into one collage but thats like asking who is the better olsen twin. You just can't do that.
So I will as done in the past dissect each collection
I was most drawn to.

Now coming back to the last post I mentioned Charlotte Ronson's new collection to be quite different. Which would be an understatement. I have seen designers' departures from previous collections but this would have to be a catapult of change to what we are used to seeing coming from Charlotte Ronson. I love the dandy-ness of the plaid pants outfit and the faux fur lined "amelia aerheart" vest matched with a plaid dress. Which is a hint of the old Charlotte we've seen in the past but the rest of the collection, with all the heavy blacks and leathers, it like looking at a proenza schouler or balmain collection. I can understand the need to get an older target clientele but it took the Charlotte girl and made her a damn woman with sex appeal and a rendezvous in a seedy motel in the wee hours of the night with a seedy man.
They even managed to make the too cute to handle Anabelle-Dexter Jones a sexy leather skirt wearing woman with all cute-ness gone out the window.Theres parts to the collection I loved and theres some that left me feeling a bit damaged because the girl we looked to for sweet, adorable and girly has departed and left a woman of the night in her place. I just hope this isn't going to stick around for future campaigns. I want my charlotte back!!!

Neuvo Botas

What I've spent on shoes the past two months is a little bit ridiculous. I don't know what came over me but all of a sudden I had the desire to own every shoe known to man. Its kind of scary thinking about a possible addiction arising, but as with all addicts deny, deny, deny!!!! So I will. plus I've vowed to not purchase any more shoes till....March. HeHeHe.Okay so moving on... I was browsing Nine West when I found the Cuzzah boots seen all over Jenny Humphrey's little guerilla fashion show two months ago. They were ridiculously on sale so I had to purchase them but not after a bit of mulling it over. I started thinking about how they would look great with an all black outfit for a true New York look and possibly with my red plaid tights or cheetah print leggings. I had to buy them, so I did and they are seriously the most comfortable heels I own, and I can really vouch that, because although I would die to be one of those girls that can walk around in heels all day without a problem, I'm not. These are really my answer to that dilemma. I can walk from Herald Sq. to Canal Street without a problem(okay maybe some slight pain, but dude, thats like a mile and a half).
I also finally got the Charlotte Ronson Beatrice boots. I got them in Black as you can tell although seeing Tennessee Thomas in the brown ones makes me think I might have made the wrong decision.They look so adorable on her but then again she can make saddle shoes ultra cool so I can't really take her as an example.

I have really come to find a huge crush for Charlotte Ronson. I adore her campaign videos, her girly frocks, her super adorable step sister Annabelle Dexter-Jones and ever since getting the shoes, her shoe collection.
Which leads me to another post entirely on Fashion Week. But thats a horse of a different color, if you know what I mean.

Winter Whites

The coat I'm wearing is something that I've been looking for since last year. It was in forever21 when I wanted to get it but I didn't get it on the spot and as forever21 does, it didn't last. It sold out rather quick. Fast forward a year later, I'm at Buffalo Exchange selling clothes to clean out some of the stuff I haven't worn in a while(Ebay, with it's selling fees really does leave you feeling kind of broke)got me a pretty decent chunk of change to work with at the store. I was able to find this amazing flutter sleeve burgundy/cream buffalo plaid dress an amazing black (swimsuit material)double scoop neck tank rockabilly dress from H&m and this coat. I was so stoked to find this dress in pretty mint condition and for no money at all.That being said it was the highlight of my week.

Ebay Finds 13

I haven't done an Ebay Finds post in a really long time. I've definitely purchased ebay items since the last time I posted however they were not noteworthy or didn't last in the good ol' closet.I did want to add a pair of Russel Bromley camel jodphurs(ankle strap, ankle boots)in this post but the picture was already taken down from my Ebay buy section so I couldn't add them but they will show up on the next outfit post.
Bag: Vintage Gold Pfiel Navy Padlock Satchel.
Dress: White Eyelet Pepper dress(It was longer when it got to me, so I hemmed it). It also came with a white (softest)cotton slip.
Shoes: Vintage Light Brown/Tan Platform Colin Stuart Clog/Sandals.

I've noticed that there are more and more clog/sandal hybrids popping up. We saw them on the Luella A/W 08 runway, and we saw them again on Ruby Aldridge wearing a pair of Jeffrey Campbells in the Urban Outfitters Fall catalog and various other brands are also picking up on the trend. There's something about them that reminisce the 70's and the other part reminisces a Nordic feel to them as well. Maybe I've been heavily influenced by both too much to sway me with this trend. The light brown leather ones on the bottom are mine and I've worn them everywhere. They offset a color combo of black and white really well and they are quite adaptable to every outfit.They add just a hint of a retro feel to any outfit and just the right amount of girly-ness to a grungy outfit.

I was so busy yesterday that I completely didn't realize that it was this blog's 1st anniversary. I started this blog 1 year ago yesterday and it seems like its only been a few months. It has grown so much over the last year and I only hope it keeps growing. I started the blog because I really needed an outlet to connect with others on things that were and still are going on in fashion. With the streetstyle fashion growing to an all time high I really wanted to have a place where I can share ideas and inspirations without any boundaries. I've really come to love blogging and sharing with the world the chaos that goes on in my brain.
I want to thank you, the readers of this here blog for your continuous visits and your lovely and amazing comments. You've inspired me and I hope I've inspired you as well.
