Western

Photobucket
Photobucket
I wore this for work.Lately I've been really into Victorian inspired dresses. I love the combination of the high neck with lace and ruffles. It really adds that feminine touch. It hides a lot of skin but makes up for in gams. I've had this dress for a long time and its already kind of showing on the garment(I wear this dress a lot).I've been scouring ebay for a "new" one.But I've been losing all the auctions. I really want something thats ethereal, romantic and whimsical. I guess maybe something Kirsten Dunst's character in Marie Antoinette wore when she was frolicking in her garden.

Comment Courant? non?
When I saw this video I immediatley thought of the men's section at H&M.Then I thought of Beavis and Butthead ripping this video to shreds.

Remember this one?

Off the Shoulder

I purchased this dress from Ebay probably in January. It's been sitting by the sewing table for gd knows how long, waiting for it's tranformation. When I read the measurements they didn't seem so big. When it was delivered, I tried the dress on and i was swimming in it. It probably about a size 16. I was so overwhelmed by the amount of fabric I was wearing I didn't know what I could do with it. Fast forward about 8 months later and I finally got my scissors working and here we are. A pretty cute dress that is loose enough to belt and wear comfortably and not be swimming in. I especially love the neckline. I have a soft spot for boho off the shoulder puff sleeves.

Carmen Marc Valvo S/S 09

I know this is really delayed but I haven't found a chance to actually sit down and blog for quite a while.A little over a week ago I attended the Carmen Marc Valvo show. It was the biggest rush finally walking into Mecca(also knows as THE TENTS).My whole life I've always said if I don't make it to one fashion week show in my whole life then I have not accomplished anything. And I finally got to go. It is truly the most amazing thing to be there and to witness in person the magic that truly exists in those tents.About 30 to 35 looks took all of 15 minutes but they were the most glorious 15 minutes ever. As my friend and I took our spot in the tent it literally took about 2 minutes for the lights to go out and the main runway lights to come on. The music started with a cool party beat and out with the first look. Over the last couple of seasons CMV has been creating looks that are very structured, tailored and have more of a glamorous look but not very youthful. This season was all about change for him. The gowns paired with little shrunken jackets, a nylon transparent raincoat with patches of patent silver squares, and a bit of swinging 60's inspiration. The whole collection seemed like it was veering to a new client. Someone a bit younger and a bit funkier. My favorite wasn't a garment actually. It was a black patent square patch backpack. Overall it was an amazing show. After my friend and I left the tent there was a reporter who had asked me to do an interview for this website called shoezoo.com or shoozoo.com I'm not sure what the website is and it goes without saying that i haven't been able to find the website either. If anyone knows anything about this website please let me know. I would love to see if it made the cut.

I had asked my friend to take a photo of me in the tent to document this momentus occasion but, alas, she cut my shoes off making me look so stumpy. Anyway, behind me was the main garden/fountain(after all, were in a park) But this garden wasn't your average garden, it was a shoe garden of all red crystallized shoes.

Marc Jacobs V.S. Marc Jacobs

Photobucket
Over the past couple of years Marc Jacobs has sent garments down the runway, that didn't have a wow factor(at least not a positive one)and that was kind of a blow just because every one always waits to see what kind of collection the father of luxurious grunge can come up with. Maybe its due to a reflection of his personal life and the slump he was in a little while back or maybe not but whatever it is that has him in a good mood, it shows because these two collections are quite statement making. The higher end of the two is a bit more dramatic, more shall I say it...Costume-y but amazing none the less. It is pretty apparent that his inspiration had to have been Mary Poppins because I can't see anyone else wearing this but the lady herself. From the Boater hats to the high waisted maxi skirts with high neck victorian flannel shirts. To me it seems straight off the 19th century set.One remark I do have to make about this collection is the palette. I'm not quite understanding the usage of such dark hues when we all know that Springs and Summers are getting more unbearable every year.
The latter of the two collection, the ever so popular with the downtown scene, the more affordable one of the two, was also quite the amazing show. I can't quite pin point the inspiration behind the collection but it is a bit grungy and very Marc By Marc. From the amazing, very wearable, Must-Have shoes to the dresses that will make their post all over downtown.Unlike the other collection, this one is more appropriate for spring because of the choice of color. Its light and airy which makes for a good combination for when all you want to do is stand in front of a fan. As I mentioned before, I am pleasantly surprised by Marc Jacobs because unlike collection in previous years this one I don't have to sleep on. I can tell you right now, I am enchanted.

Ruffian

Photobucket
At Ruffian , were seeing something that no other runways are doing. Luxe, velveteen fabrics in Spring? Are they sure this is for their Spring collection because those fabrics and palettes are more than appropriate for right now. I would absolutely love to own those gold and wine colored shorts. This is also quite the departure for Ruffian being that they presented such a masculine collection for Fall 08. This collection is very 60's but also modern. We're also seeing the Capri trend coming back as well. Overall I absolutely love this collection and would love to own every piece.

Is It Spring Yet?

Photobucket
Remember that time in the 90's when stores were selling the bucket/fisherman hat that matched the dress and/or bag? This totally reminded me of that. Back then it was pretty stupid, but looking at this collection and it's anything but.
I know that the 50's house dress silhouettes aren't anything modern or innovative but there's something about it that makes me want to hound it for right now as well as in Spring 09. I am absolutely in love with this collection and I want both those dresses. And what about that Crochet top? Also three words. Floral Pant Suit? Can it get any better? Maybe come spring they'll do a collaboration with Target and make that dress affordable? Oh what dreams!!!
For beauty it seems that Daughters by Obedient Sons is liking the dark lip trend and wants to keep it going all the way through spring.

Alexander Wang

Photobucket
So it seems that the boy who has a penchant for black, metal, and leather gave everyone a slap in the face by bringing back color to Spring/ Summer 09. It seems that muted colors are gonna be huge in Spring/Summer 09. Very light shades of pastels made the rounds at the Alexander Wang show and it seems like they were a hit with the fans.
His grungy aesthetic, which made him famous, is still very present but just gave the Alexander Wang girl a bit of color and fun to her otherwise "gray" closet.I know i've seen the crop top and high waist shorts look before but something about this seems really fresh. My likes are the mesh/lacey body suit, tattered "homeless" sweater, and those amazing, insane, impractical sandal/boot hybrids. Things I could do without; leather croptops and leather du rags.

On a complete side note that has nothign to do with anything, I have to divulge.
As I was browsing the party photos at Style.com I noticed that Style.com hsas just outed one of the biggest street artists/graffitists in LA and NY's identity, which he's been known to be super secretive about.

Let the Madness Begin

Photobucket
About 7 months have passed since the last New York Fashion week and we are about to embark another week of Fashion madness. Days even weeks prior to the giant Mega Event this city has to offer; there was a notion in the air. Almost like a quiet before the storm. And here we are, eyes and ears focused on what's to come.

Erin Fetherston's collection was really muted in color and very frail in aesthetic. It seems as if it were the continuation of her Fall collection only not as strong in story. Her choice of silhouette is draped and hangs away from the body making it seem very appropriate for Summer.
Photobucket

I am absolutely loving the sequin bandau top, t-shirt and the sheer fabrics on tops and bottoms. I am also hinting very similar silhouettes from Chloe's Fall 08 runway. Don't you think?
Jenni Kayne's collection has departed quite a bit from her Fall 08 collection, but her signature is still there in choice of silhouette and color.Never one to go to extremes in terms of Feminine-Masculine. She found that happy medium with this collection.I'm especially loving the floral print dress and the denim blouse with gold sequin skirt.
Photobucket
For the beauty aspect, she took note of Swedish street style, which is a few fashion notches above New York and gave her models a top bun, which sits at the crown of the head and towers over about a few inches. Be on the lookout this fall for such hairstyles.
As for Rag and Bone, we see a mix of 50's Rockabilly mixed with Skinhead influences in both men and women's collections. They gave a really edgy and dark aspect to rockabilly, which is young and fresh and very much rock inspired.
Photobucket
The tailoring for the women is impeccable, which definitely gives negation to all the billowy garments we're seeing on other runways.

Newly Purchased

Photobucket
I found this dress and thought that it was a dress that I've seen before. Then I thought about how it reminded me a lot of the Gucci fall 08 runway and how boho luxe it is. I loved the babydoll silhouette, the Autumn color palette on the floral print and the tight 3/4 sleeves. Immediately I thought about pairing this with my faux fur vest and ankle boots.
Photobucket
A couple of weeks ago I saw a pair of wedge pumps at H&M and I adored them but the more I tried them on with things the more I got discouraged. I kept thinking that here was nothing special about them and they were just a good pair of shoes to have. but then I saw this pair about a week later and I knew that the other pair needed to get exchanged. I already have a pair of platform oxfords but those I thought were definitely not appropriate for work. I wouldn't last 10 minutes on the train let alone all day in them. That's where these come in. These are adorable and appropriate and definitely more interesting than the other pair I got.

Photobucket
When I saw this dress I immediately thought that it looked familiar. I loved the sailor style of it. The length was very much flattering and it's possibly the only dress I could ever fathom wearing my hair tied back with. So I looked back in my Runway folders to see whereI recognized this dress from and I found it....
Photobucket
Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S 08. The production of this dress along with various others that are a lot more similar to the dress on the runway is a bit late but still so very appropriate for Fall. I love the sailor collar and the button detailing.

The Countdown Continues

Today I went to get some sewing supplies and a bit of strolling around. It was a gorgeous day.
You haven't seen this dress in quite a while, huh?
Photobucket
Photobucket
As I was strolling around I happened to check out the window to this shoe store I never really look in.Something caught my eye and I went in. I found this pair of ankle lace up high heel boots that I'm actually in love with. It was love at first sight and I will go back to get these. They kind of reminded me of the marc jacobs but these i like a lot better. They don't have the multi colors that the m.j. pair have and they are lower and closer to the ankle. They were everything I want in a pair of ankle boots for this fall....well....actually they would be a lot better if they came with a platform, but I'll take these anyway.

Nantucket Blues 2.0

I just came across this video from Vampire Weekend for Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa. I'm not sure when it came out but it's new to me and I'm loving every single Retro minute of it. They were able to capture the Waspy, preppy style of the rich crowd in 1989. This is a perfect attempt at recreating a cheesy, completely predictable 80's teen movie. I love it!!!

Newly Thrifted

Yesterday I went thrifting and it was seriously the best day to go becasue everything was 50% off. Which meant everything was even cheaper than its already super cheap price tag.

I made a bow that I've been looking all over for and couldn't find the right size or texture. I wanted something floppy and dark and preferably forest green. With the frustration i gathered from not having found what I was looking for I took the excess fabric from the Black and Green Gingham dress( a couple of posts back) and made a bow of it. Glued an alligator clip in the back and viola! I have myself a floppy bow. Now that I know I can make it myself i'll probably make more in different fabrics.

This outfit came to while just looking through my closet. I've had both garments in my closet for a really long time and have never thought about pairing the two together. The flutter sleeve tunic has been in my closet for a lot longer and I've never really found good use for it until now. This has become one of my favorite outfits. I love how the different materials on everything be so apposing yet work so well. I especially love the corset studded suede brown belt. It ties the whole outfit together.
I wore a really decadent red lip to offset the paleness of the whole outfit.
